Malaysia And Indonesia Produce `Warta Serumpun`
Kuala Lumpur- Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) and Televisi Republik Indonesia (TVRI) have embarked on a joint programme to produce a joint news bulletin known as `Warta Serumpun`.
This is the first time that both broadcasting stations have forged cooperation in news broadcasting because past joint efforts were confined to entertainment programmes.
The maiden programme was launched at midnight last night (Malaysian time) in conjunction with the 63rd anniversary of the Indonesian Independence. The programme will be shown on TV1.
Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek described the programme as an innovation which would demonstrate the capacity and strength of the Malaysia-Indonesia language in the field of broadcasting especially in this region.
As a start, the 30-minute programme would also carry the congratulatory message of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to the leaders and people of Indonesia in conjunction with their independence day.
"I convey the congratulations of all Malaysians as well as my own to the Indonesian President and government of Indonesia because of the very good relations between the governments of Malaysia and Indonesia, especially my personal relation with the President of Indonesia," said the Prime Minister in his congratulatory message.
In addition, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak also took the opportunity to congratulate the Indonesian government for the success achieved by the country.
"I hope we can erase whatever negative feelings there were between both countries and create public awareness that the success of Indonesia is also the success of Malaysia and vice-versa," he said.
For the time being, the programme is being broadcast on weekends and this would be extended further from time to time based on technical capability.
`Warta Serumpun` will be launched via satellite with facilitators from RTM and TVRI.
